WE MAKE CASTELLS,
WE ARE CULTURE
Who are we?
The Colla Castellera Tirallongues de Manresa is a group of people of all ages who work together to achieve the goals set throughout our history. We are a reflection of society, with young people who bring joy and debauchery, and old people who add wisdom and experience. Diversity enriches us and makes our group a small world.
What we do?
Our main objective is to promote the casteller fact in Manresa and the region through casteller performances. In addition, we contribute to the revitalization of popular culture in our area. We like to have a good time and we organize extra castle activities to enjoy together.
come to do castles with us!
The history of Tirallongues de Manresa
Since our foundation in 1992, the Colla Castellera Tirallongues de Manresa has been a symbol of passion and dedication, erecting its first castell on February 21, 1993. We have built castells and friendships, growing together as a big family of castellers.
Inspired by the enthusiasm experienced at the Tarragona castle competition in 1992, Pere Bartomeus and Ricard Riu decided to found a castle group in Bages. They shared their idea with the journalist Montse Xixons, and on November 14, 1992, the Regió 7 newspaper announced the intention of a group of young people from Manresa to create the Tirallongues de Manresa.
The beginnings of Tirallongues de Manresa began at the association of neighbors on the Santpedor road, where we held the first meetings to decide important aspects such as the name, the coat of arms, the color of the shirt and the first statutes.
To learn how to make castles, we attended the rehearsals of the Minyons de Terrassa and the Castellers de Terrassa. At the local neighborhood association we started to practice what we had seen. We realized the difficulty of making castles and the large number of people needed, which led us to look for more members and a suitable space to rehearse.
After our first public appearance on February 21, 1993 in Manresa Town Hall Square, we found a more suitable place thanks to the contact of Mr. Senillosa and the neighborhood association of Les Escodines: the old Church of the neighborhood, which they used as a warehouse for Christmas lighting.
With the growth of the entity, sharing this premises became difficult. Pere Bartomeus managed the recovery of the old Casa Caritat church to make castles. Although deconsecrated, it had religious material that we removed with the help of the Friends of the Manresa Headquarters. The altar of the Virgin of Sorrows is now in the Seu de Manresa, thanks to the joint effort.
Searching in Manresa's historical archives, we discovered that in the past children played a game called "La Tirallonga". Thus, during the voting to decide the name, "Tiralonggues" was the most voted. This name broke patterns, as we were the first gang in Catalonia that did not adopt a synonym for a boy in front of the name of the city. Due to our geographical position, the castellan world renamed us "the Esquimals", since we were the most northerly group in Catalonia.
Initially, we had no money to buy shirts, but a retired person from Sallent offered us some durable clothes at a very cheap price. These stocks, which could not be sold, were enough for the first members of the gang.
Even today, this clothing is manufactured in the old Sallent loom. The shield we chose combines part of the Manresa shield with a pillar of five, drawn with a linear technique, symbolizing our castellar spirit.
